Hi, I'm Betty. It wasn't that long ago that I was working a 9-5 job in corporate America. When my weekend passion turned to creating, I spent hours trying to figure it all out. I would love to help you get there a bit faster by teaching you what I have learned through trial and error (mostly fun mistakes!). I have a love for creating abstract fields of flowers and I want to share that love with you. I'm a self-taught artist who started her creative journey late in life (50!), however, the timing was actually just right. After a long career in customer service management, I was ready to unleash my creative side. Combined with my love for helping others, I'll take you by the hand and walk you through the creative process. I hope you'll join me!

Suzanne Allard

An artist and teacher based in Charlottesville, Virginia Suzanne Allard Design was born in 2019 when I made the decision to grow my love of art and creativity into a full-time business. My passion is creating art that exudes joy and encouraging others to express their creative spirit which I believe we all possess. Having been raised in South and Central America, I fell in love with the gorgeous colors, textures, and flowers of that part of the world. After working in corporate America and then my own management consulting business with my husband, and raising two children, I followed my dream and launched my art business. I sell originals and giclée prints. I also love teaching and encouraging others as much as I like painting. I teach online classes to inspire and encourage you. Join me!

ART SUPPLY LIST

 

Suzanne Allard:

  • Watercolor or mixed media paper (140lb or higher)
  • Paint: acrylic or acryl gouache (you could use gouache or watercolor, but it will need more drying time in between coats)
  • Brushes: 1 flat #4 or #6, 1 flat #8 or #10 and one small round brush for details (#2 or #4).
  • Optional: Gold metallic pen, acrylic markers

Betty Franks:

  • Bristol or Mixed Media Paper (9x12)
  • Paint: Pick your favorite acrylic colors + black and white


Here are the colors I used: Titanium White, Carbon Black, Blue Green, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Turquoise, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Indian Yellow, Quinacridone Red, Pyrrole Red, and Fluorescent Magenta.

  • Brushes: 1 flat #4 or #6, 1 flat #8 or #10, one small round brush for details (#2 or #4)
  • Mark making: colored pencils, crayons, regular pencil
  • Optional: heating tool/hair dryer, rigger brush
